Context

The Pierrier STEP, in operation since 1976, serves a population equivalent to 46,000 inhabitants. With the increasing volumes of wastewater to treat, modernizing the equipment became essential to ensure optimal treatment quality while meeting environmental standards. The decision to replace the old electrical panels with automated systems is part of this process.

Modernization of the Pierrier STEP

Improve the efficiency of the pretreatment and sludge thickening processes, ensuring more reliable operations and better wastewater management for the concerned municipalities.

Achievements

Alps Group was selected to carry out the modernization of the Pierrier STEP. The project included several key stages:

  • Design and manufacture of electrical cabinets and enclosures tailored to the specific needs of the STEP
  • Development of electrical schematics using EPLAN to ensure an installation compliant with technical requirements
  • Supervision of the procurement of materials necessary for the project’s implementation
  • Study of automation systems and programming of Schneider Modicon M340 PLCs with Unity Pro, replacing manual control systems with automated solutions

The entire project was carried out in close collaboration with SIGE, ensuring that the new installations met both operational and regulatory requirements.

We are overall very satisfied. The electrical panels were manufactured to high standards, clean, and without wiring errors, which saved time during commissioning. The electrical schematics were well-designed, and we particularly appreciated the advice provided by Alps Group's experts. The programming didn’t cause any delays during commissioning, which lasted 6 days instead of the 15 initially planned. We are pleased with the final result.
