Nestlé Agbara Nigeria Alps Group

Context

Nestlé’s Nigerian facility primarily produces locally adapted products such as Maggi, Milo, and Golden Morn. To strengthen its presence in Africa, Nestlé launched the construction of a new malt production unit in Agbara. This project aligns with Nestlé’s strategy to support the local economy while enhancing access to nutritious food.

A Fully Automated, Interconnected Malt Plant

Design an efficient facility capable of producing malt while integrating advanced automation technologies to ensure process quality and operational efficiency.

Implementation

Alps Group managed several aspects of the project, including:

  • Project management and coordination of local cabling teams
  • Electrical engineering, including PLC and HMI programming
  • Manufacturing of 15 electrical cabinets and 9 control boxes
  • Supply and installation of Wonderware IAS supervision servers
  • On-site testing and commissioning of all equipment

A team of 12 Alps Group experts worked in Nigeria, ensuring a successful integration and on-time delivery. Thanks to this initiative, Nestlé can now produce malt locally, reinforcing its value chain in Africa.

I have greatly appreciated my collaboration with Alps Group since 2008. They provide a true turnkey solution for large projects, from basic design to fine-tuned commissioning. Within Nestlé, I cite them as a benchmark example of best practices for an E&A (Electricity & Automation) project. Everything went smoothly, even in a challenging country like Nigeria, with local labor and remote support when needed. The result is considered a ‘state-of-the-art’ interconnected plant, fully automated, meeting Western hygiene and safety standards, thanks to a highly skilled and experienced team. Following this successful project, we engaged Alps Group again for the cereal factory.
