Hardware and software automation for a multi-product factory

Discover how Alps Group automated two key production lines for Nestlé in the Middle East, dedicated to coffee and culinary products.

Context

In 2015, Nestlé opened a multi-product factory in Dubai for $120 million. Located on 7.8 hectares, it employs 400 people and aims to supply the growing Middle Eastern market with consumer goods such as coffee and culinary products. Dubai, Nestlé’s regional hub, also hosts production lines for Kit Kat and Nido, further enhancing its production capacity.

Project Oryx: Automating production lines

Automate the production lines for Coffee Mix (Nescafé 3-in-1) and the culinary range (Maggi bouillons and soups) to ensure optimal management of recipes and packaging.

Achievements

Alps Group managed the entire hardware and software automation system for the Coffee Mix and Culinary lines.

This included project management, the design of electrical schematics, manufacturing and delivery of control cabinets, as well as programming of the PLCs and HMI interfaces.

The Culinary line is equipped with an automated recipe management system that weighs, doses, and mixes raw materials before packaging them in various types.

The commissioning process included I/O testing and a full commissioning, with a team of five Alps Group experts mobilized during peak periods to ensure the success of the project.

The Oryx project faced many technical and economic challenges, but none of them were related to the automation part. Both myself and my entire team are very satisfied with the performance of Alps Group. It's hard for us to find anything to complain about. The professionalism, commitment, and motivation of the entire Alps Group team have significantly contributed to the rapid and successful startup of this new factory.
